Vayovrudha Charitable Trust – A ray of hope for elder orphans | Fusion - WeRIndia

The Vayovrudha Charitable Trust, established in 1970 by Dr Challa Harikumar, an Ayurvedic physician, has become a home for elder orphans and those in need of essential care and support.

With a commitment to offering solace to the aged, Dr Harikumar has dedicated himself to providing healthcare services to the impoverished and underprivileged, gaining unwavering faith from his patients.

He started offering medical services at a nominal fee of ₹2 to impoverished families. In order to extend support to elder orphans, he established the charitable trust after conducting a survey.

Dr Harikumar reached out to 80 relatives, friends, and fellow doctors, convincing them to contribute ₹150 each per month.

That’s how the trust started its activities. Since then, the distribution of essentials to elder orphans has been continued without any interruption.

Over time, the trust expanded its reach by appointing 10 philanthropists as managing trustees.

These trustees ensure the smooth conduct of the trust’s service activities, including the distribution of rice and essential commodities to elder orphans every third Sunday of the month.

In addition, it conducts free medical camps every Sunday and provides necessary medications to senior citizens in Vijayawada.

Currently, the trust provides comprehensive care and services monthly to 130 orphaned seniors, each of whom is issued an identity card.

In the unfortunate event of a beneficiary’s demise, the trust offers ₹2,000 as funeral expenses. Besides, the trust eases the adoption of new beneficiaries every year to ensure the program continues to benefit those in need.

With monthly expenses amounting to ₹65,000, the trust is projected to sustain its uninterrupted services to orphaned senior citizens for 200 months, until March 2024.

This ongoing dedication and support exemplify the profound impact that Dr Harikumar and the Vayovrudha Charitable Trust have made in improving the lives of elder orphans, providing them with the care and assistance they deserve.
