Most people normally think that more than 12 hours of study is essential to become an IAS. Several IAS aspirants dedicate at least nine hours a day for their studies.

But, this IAS topper says that one can secure the position even if he/she spends a few hours of quality time.

Saurabh from Jharkhand cleared UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) in 2018 with an All India Rank of 113.

This 32-year old dad scored third highest marks (201) in the interview. Saurabh could not succeed in his first attempt as he failed to crack the Mains in 2017.

Raised in a joint family, Saurabh learned to balance between studies and extracurricular activities.

After graduating in Commerce from St Xavier’s College, he went for CA and CS followed by an MBA from the Faculty of Management Studies at the University of Delhi.

He joined RBI after working in Capgemini for 1.5 years. While preparing for RBI exams, Saurabh realized that his interest lies in other things than banking. He wanted to choose a career to serve people in a better way.

He was inspired by the district collector of Dumka who used to interact with people to understand their problems.

After a few months, he started preparing for the UPSC exam while working in the RBI. At that time, his wife was pregnant.

Due to his full-time job, Saurabh could dedicate only three to four hours daily. He entirely depended on self-study with a good plan.

Just a week before his Prelims, his wife delivered a baby boy, and Saurabh balanced his duties well in that time.

He took care of his wife and his kid in the hospital while his books were right next to them.

He says that he does not like last-minute studies, hence he prepared well right from the beginning. Hence, his preparations did not affect his newly born boy and he succeeded in his attempt.
