UPSC embraces advanced tech to combat exam fraud | Fusion - WeRIndia

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is set to overhaul its examination framework by integrating advanced digital technologies. This move aims to address recent cases of fraud and cheating in government exams.

The commission plans to implement Aadhaar-based fingerprint authentication and facial recognition for candidates.

To further prevent fraud and impersonation, UPSC will use AI-powered CCTV surveillance and QR code scanning of e-admit cards.

These technological measures are expected to enhance the integrity of the examination process.

The UPSC conducts fourteen exams annually, including the prestigious Civil Services Examination and various recruitment exams for high-level government positions.

To support this technological shift, the commission has invited proposals from public sector undertakings to provide the necessary tech services.

The tender specifies that bidders must be profit-making entities with an average annual turnover of at least ₹100 crore from examination-based projects over the last three financial years.

The chosen service provider will receive exam schedules, venue lists, and candidate counts two to three weeks before the exams.

This initiative follows the recent suspension of the National Testing Agency by the Supreme Court due to multiple irregularities in administering the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) 2024.

The UPSC’s decision coincides with the controversy surrounding trainee IAS officer Puja Khedkar.

She allegedly falsified documents to take the civil service exam twelve times, exceeding the allowed number of attempts.

This led to a complaint by the UPSC, resulting in a police investigation and a show-cause notice, which could annul her selection and ban her from future exams.

The UPSC’s adoption of these advanced technologies demonstrates a commitment to ensuring fair and transparent examination processes.

By leveraging modern tools, the commission aims to safeguard the credibility of its exams and maintain public trust in its operations.

This proactive approach is expected to set a new standard for exam security and integrity in India.
