The Union Public Service Commission has officially released the UPSC CMS 2026 notification, opening doors for medical graduates to join central government services.

A total of 1358 vacancies have been announced under the Combined Medical Services Examination.

The application process began on March 11, 2026, and will continue until March 31, 2026. Interested candidates can apply online through the official UPSC portal.

Meanwhile, the written examination is scheduled for early August 2026.

This national-level exam recruits medical officers for key government bodies, including Central Health Services, Indian Railways, and municipal corporations.

Therefore, it presents a strong career opportunity for MBBS graduates seeking stable and impactful roles.

To be eligible, candidates must hold an MBBS degree and be below 32 years of age as of August 1, 2026.

However, age relaxations apply for reserved categories as per government rules. Additionally, final-year MBBS students can also apply, provided they submit proof of passing later.

The selection process consists of a written examination followed by a personality test. The written exam includes two papers, each carrying 250 marks.

Paper 1 covers General Medicine and Pediatrics, while Paper 2 focuses on Surgery, Gynecology & Obstetrics, and Preventive & Social Medicine. Notably, the exam follows an objective format with negative marking.

In terms of vacancies, Category I includes 864 posts under Central Health Services. On the other hand, Category II offers positions such as Assistant Divisional Medical Officers in Railways and roles in municipal bodies like NDMC and MCD.

The application process is fully online. Candidates must first complete One-Time Registration, fill in personal and academic details, upload documents, and pay the fee.

The application fee is ₹200 for General and OBC male candidates, while others are exempted.

UPSC CMS 2026 offers a valuable pathway for medical professionals to serve the nation. Candidates are advised to apply early and prepare strategically to secure their position.
