Know about Martyr Colonel Santosh Babu
Colonel Santosh Babu martyred at Galwan Valley. This Suryapet Indian Army officer was killed by Chinese troops in a clash in Ladakh on Monday night.
He was one among the 20 soldiers martyred in that clash. He was leading the team. While the team was removing the illegal tent set up by Chinese forces on the Indian side of LAC, the soldiers got trapped and killed by the Chinese troops.
Santosh Babu had been serving on the Indo-China border for the last 18 months. He was in the 16th Bihar Battalion.
Earlier, he served on the Pakistan border. He was in Kashmir at that time. He killed three terrorists in 2007 who tried to intrude into the country.
Santosh had a passion to serve in the Army. His father Upender wanted to join the Army but could not achieve it. However, his son realized his dream.
Santosh joined Sainik School at Korukonda in 1993 and studied there up to 2000. After that, he graduated from the National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy.
He joined the Indian Army in 2004 and served the country for 15 years.
Santosh is survived by his wife and two kids. His wife Santoshi and two children have been living in Delhi.
Though Santosh got transferred to Hyderabad, he could not shift to Hyderabad due to the nationwide lockdown. Hence, he was staying at the border. He planned to move to Hyderabad after the lockdown. Meanwhile, he was killed in a clash at the Indo-Chinese border.
As Santosh was their only child, his parents are sad. However, they said that they were proud of their son’s sacrifice for the country.
His mother said that he was very talented and had won many awards. She also said that her son never revealed anything about the internal matters of the Army as he used to maintain secrecy. Just a day before the incident, Santosh called his parents and informed that the situation was serious.
His last rites were performed and the funeral took place yesterday in his home town.
