6-year-old Indian-origin girl wins UK PM’s award
Nowadays, many people are working to control environmental pollution. Some children also play a significant role. This six-year-old Indian-origin girl is one among them. She received an award for her efforts.
Aleesha Gadhia is a climate activist. Being a mini ambassador for Cool Earth, she campaigns to raise awareness on climate change issues and deforestation. Cool Earth is a non-profit organization in the United Kingdom. It works with rainforest communities to stop deforestation and encourages businesses to create more sustainable practices.
Aleesha set up a climate change club at her school to motivate her classmates to plant trees and manage litter properly. Besides, she wrote letters to many large companies in the UK to take action for climate issues. She set up an online fundraiser page and raised £3,400 for Cool Earth. She said that she wanted to save rainforests.
For all her activities, she has been recognized with the Prime Minister’s daily Points of Light award. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson wrote an appreciation letter to her.
The British Prime Minister’s Points of Light award was launched in 2014. It is given to people making a difference in their communities as a recognition. Aleesha becomes the 1,755th person to receive this award.
She expressed her happiness for receiving the award from the PM. She said that she started working on climate change issues as it is one of the important issues to resolve to avoid future problems.
Aleesha’s parents Kiran and Pooja Gadhia also expressed their happiness. They said that their daughter had initiated measures to save the environment at a very young age and motivated several people to take action for this.
Aleesha was appreciated by her classmates and teachers for receiving the award. Besides, her local MP, Ruth Edwards, praised her efforts to tackle climate change issues.
