The inspiring journey of Dhanya Dhenu

Hariom Nautiyal, a former IT professional earning over ₹1 lakh monthly in Bangalore, made a bold decision to leave behind his lucrative career for a mission that resonated with his desire to make a meaningful impact.

Despite enjoying a comfortable life in the city, Hariom felt a growing sense of emptiness and a longing to start a business that would contribute to the well-being of others.

This realization led him back to his roots in Rishikesh in 2009, where he sought a new direction by engaging with local farmers and understanding their needs.

After several conversations with farmers and locals, Hariom identified an opportunity in the dairy industry and decided to launch his own venture, Dhanya Dhenu, in 2014.

He invested ₹10-15 lakh in setting up a cow shed, purchasing 10-12 cows, and beginning the production of milk. The early days were challenging, with minimal profits and difficulty building a customer base.

However, Hariom’s perseverance paid off as he gradually diversified his product offerings to include organic dairy products, ghee, buttermilk, poultry farming, pickles, and even ice cream—all produced using sustainable practices.

Dhanya Dhenu’s growth has been impressive, with the dairy sector alone generating ₹3,000-4,000 in daily profits.

Recognizing the potential of a larger market, Hariom expanded his brand’s reach to Dehradun, significantly boosting revenue.

Utilizing his marketing skills, Hariom effectively promoted Dhanya Dhenu through word-of-mouth, community support, and social media, keeping costs low.

Today, Dhanya Dhenu’s products are available on major e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart, reaching customers across India and abroad.

Beyond financial success, Hariom has made a significant social impact. He has involved 500 women from self-help groups in producing pickles and supplying milk, helping to increase their incomes.

Although initially met with scepticism from villagers, Hariom’s success has inspired many in his community, transforming perceptions of what can be achieved in a rural setting.

Dhanya Dhenu now generates an annual revenue of ₹2 crore, with plans to shift to solar electricity and further reduce business costs.

Hariom also envisions opening a degree college to provide affordable, high-quality education to local students.

His journey is a testament to how determination, innovation, and a commitment to social responsibility can transform not only a business but an entire community.
