Ninjacart – An Agritech Platform

Ninjacart is one of the leading agritech platforms. The company acts as a bridge between farmers and businesses by connecting both of them directly.

It uses technology to solve the supply chain problems of the country.

Ninjacart’s aim is to help both farmers and retailers. They help farmers in getting better prices for their harvest and make sure that they have constant demand.

At the same time, they enable retailers to get fresh vegetables and fruits at the best prices directly from the farmers.

Ninjacart was founded in 2015 in Bengaluru. Initially, it was started as a B2C company. But, later the company realized that this not a viable model in the long-term.

Then, the company turned to a B2B model to connect both farmers and retailers. Their main aim is to make sure all the people involved in the chain would get a fair price.

Ninjacart is working almost throughout the year without taking any time off. Approximately 500 tonnes of vegetables and fruits are delivered daily to many retail stores and shops in different locations across the country.

It has over 7,000 farmers. However, on an average 2,000 farmers work with them on a monthly basis.

Farmers can deliver their produce at the collection centres of the company. They have 22 collection centres in Bengaluru alone.

They receive the harvest between 4.00 pm and 6.00 pm daily. Some farmers travel up to 400 kilometres to drop their produce.

Then, the produce is weighed and tagged. The supplied quantity and the price is calculated through an app, and the amount is calculated based on it. The farmers will get the amount into their bank accounts on the very next day.

Ninjacart does not have a typical sorting and segregation system like other logistics businesses. Everything will be done through their app.

Using technology in supply chain facilitates time saving. In 2016, the company was handling only seven tonnes a day which increased to 100 tonnes after a year.

Now, the company is managing around 500 tonnes daily.

Currently, the company is operating in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Pune.
