Keebee – An organic kidswear brand
To provide sustainable kids wear directly to customers, a Hyderabad woman launched Keebee Organics.
Vandana Kalagara launched the startup in 2016. Later, her classmate Smruti Rao also joined it. The startup launched its first product in 2017. Aiming to sell directly to online customers, they started selling through their website. Apart from this, the duo also sells through various online channels like Myntra, FristCry etc.
Vandana pursued her graduation from NIFT. She completed her master’s in fashion design from FIDM in the US. She also worked in the design industry for a few years.
Later, she took a break from her work after the birth of her daughter. During her break, she worked on designing apparel for kids. She also accepted a few freelance projects on kids designs. As her daughter wanted her to stay at home, Vandana explored options to continue her design work.
She researched a lot and found that there was no organic kidswear brand. Then, she decided to launch a brand for kids.
However, Vandana faced many challenges in the initial days. She found neither organic cotton suppliers nor Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)–certified manufacturers. She had overcome them with time.
Later, Vandana’s classmate Smruti also expressed her interest in joining the startup as a co-founder in 2018. The duo obtained a business loan of ₹15 lakhs to expand the brand.
Keebee’s products are manufactured in GOTS–certified units, mainly in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.
The startup offers products for kids up to 10 years. These products are ranged from ₹350 to ₹4,000.
Keebee troubled during the first wave of COVID-19 and the second wave. However, Vandana and Smruti hope for better in the future. They want to expand their business globally after the pandemic subsides. Besides, they are planning to open offline stores also.
