No panic: LPG e-KYC rule explained simply
Recent reports about LPG connections being cut off have caused confusion among consumers.
However, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has clarified that there is no such blanket rule.
The current communication is only part of an awareness drive, not a new policy.
To begin with, e-KYC is required only for customers whose verification is still pending. If you have already completed your e-KYC earlier, you do not need to repeat the process.
Therefore, regular LPG users can continue their services without concern.
That said, the rules differ slightly for beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. These users must complete biometric verification once every financial year.
However, this requirement applies only if they want to receive the Targeted Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) subsidy. This subsidy is available specifically for the 8th and 9th cylinder refills after using the first seven in a year.
Meanwhile, the government has made the process easier and more accessible. Users can now complete e-KYC directly from their smartphones.
First, download your LPG provider’s official app and log in using your registered mobile number. Then, select the e-KYC or Aadhaar authentication option.
Next, install the AadhaarFaceRD app and follow the instructions for face verification. Once done, your e-KYC will be updated within minutes at no cost.
Moreover, this initiative serves several important purposes. It helps eliminate duplicate or fake gas connections.
It also reduces black marketing and ensures fair distribution. Most importantly, it guarantees that subsidies reach genuine beneficiaries.
Earlier, some misuse cases were found where individuals held multiple LPG connections to gain extra benefits. Hence, Aadhaar-based verification has been introduced to improve transparency and accountability.
There is no need for concern. Users should simply check their status, complete pending e-KYC if required, and continue enjoying uninterrupted LPG services without any disruption or confusion.
