LPG e-KYC becomes essential to continue subsidy benefits

Millions of LPG consumers across India must complete their e-KYC to continue receiving gas subsidies and uninterrupted cylinder deliveries.

The government has made Aadhaar-based verification mandatory to ensure that subsidies reach genuine beneficiaries and to eliminate duplicate or fake LPG connections.

The move is part of efforts to strengthen the subsidy delivery system under the PAHAL scheme, which transfers LPG subsidies directly to eligible consumers’ bank accounts.

By linking LPG connections with Aadhaar, authorities aim to prevent misuse and ensure that a single household receives benefits for only one connection.

Consumers who fail to complete e-KYC risk having their subsidy payments suspended.

In some cases, cylinder bookings and deliveries may also be blocked until verification is completed. As a result, LPG users are being encouraged to finish the process as soon as possible.

The e-KYC process is simple and can be completed online within a few minutes if the Aadhaar-linked mobile number is active.

Customers of HP Gas, Bharat Gas, and Indane Gas can use their respective websites or mobile applications to verify their identity through Aadhaar-based OTP authentication.

Those unable to complete the process online can visit their nearest LPG distributor for assistance.

The government’s primary objective is to improve transparency in subsidy distribution. Officials estimate that millions of LPG connections remain unlinked with Aadhaar, while duplicate and inactive connections continue to create financial leakages.

Through mandatory verification, authorities hope to reduce subsidy misuse and optimise public expenditure.

Another expected benefit is improved access to LPG services. Removing duplicate and ghost connections can free up resources, reduce waiting periods for new applicants, and help expand LPG coverage to households that still lack access to clean cooking fuel.

The re-verification drive in 2026 represents a stricter approach to customer authentication.

Under the updated system, only verified consumers will continue to receive subsidy benefits without disruption.

Therefore, completing LPG e-KYC has become an important requirement for every domestic LPG user.

With a straightforward online process and significant consequences for non-compliance, consumers are advised to complete Aadhaar-based verification at the earliest to ensure uninterrupted LPG supply and timely subsidy credits.
