The prestigious Time Person of the Year 2016 online reader’s polls has been won by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Modi received 18 per cent of the votes in the poll when it closed last night.
The number of votes he got were much higher than other contenders like Obama, Trump and Wikileaks Founder Julian Assange, who all received 7 per cent of the ‘yes’ vote.
Time stated that Modi received significantly higher votes than any other prominent figure including Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg who received 2 per cent and US Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton who received 4 per cent.
The Final Person of the Year 2016 will be chosen by the editors of Time.
The results from the poll however show the view of the majority regarding various prominent figures. This year, Modi is the most influential figure.
According to Time, the reader poll provides a lot of perspective into the way the world is in this year. Modi has now won the online reader’s poll for Time’s Person of the Year title twice. He also won in the year 2014.
In that year, he got more than 16 per cent out of five million votes.
Furthermore, Modi is among the top contenders of Person of the Year for the fourth year in a row.
The title is given by Time magazine to the person who influenced the news and the world most in the year whether for good or bad reasons.
This title was last year given to German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
According to Time, in recent months, the approval ratings for Modi from Indians have gone high.
Modi has been in scrutiny since last month mainly because of the demonetization of ₹500 and ₹1,000 notes which had a huge impact on cash-based businesses.
