Maharashtra to launch cyber police stations
Cybercrimes in the country are alarmingly increasing. Maharashtra is one of the states where cybercrime is rising much more than the rest of the country over the past years including tier-II cities and rural areas. The rise of cybercrime is 142.1 per cent in the state from the last few years as per the officials. 907 cybercrimes were registered in 2013 which rose to 2,195 in 2015. However, only five were convicted in the total of 4,981 cases filed in the last three years.
Several cybercrime cases are pending due to the shortfall of necessary resources. In order to combat cybercrimes and tackle cybercriminals, Maharashtra is changing its cybercrime labs into cyber police stations soon. Maharashtra will be the first state to have cyber police stations in all districts with this initiative. This will help solve cases related to cybercrimes quicker.
Recently, the BJP government under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis completed the term of two years. Maharashtra state government will notify on this matter soon. It is hard to deal with cybercrimes for normal police stations due to lack of enough training and technical skills.
On the occasion of Independence Day this year, he established 34 well equipped cyber labs in all districts of the state. These labs have skilled human resources and the latest equipment to tackle cyber crimes very effectively.
The Cybercrime Wing of the state government is going to set up 51 cybercrime labs. Out of them, 34 labs will be at the district level, nine will be at Commissioner of Police offices, seven will be at the offices of Inspector General and one lab will be at the state police headquarters.
The launching of the cyber police station at each district will help solve cases as soon as they are filed in the station. The authorities stated that some cities will also have additional cyber police stations.
