Kabaddi sees a Strong Revival
The Indian rural sport of Kabaddi is now facing a very strong revival. The sport which until recently has been fading due to the popularity of cricket and other sports is now getting a lot of attention. The comeback for this sport has seen a boost due to the six week Pro Kabaddi league. This is a made for TV tournament with completely professional setups. It is complemented with music, fancy lights, and Bollywood stars. The league also has a lot of money put into it.
Kabaddi was a traditional rural sport that was very famous in the past. In present modern India, it did not capture the attention of a typical middle-class family. The revival of the sport in the present generation required it to grab the attention of media and the people. Due to the Pro Kabaddi League, the attention has been grabbed and many people were excited to see the league.
The games have generated more than 2 billion mentions digitally. The opening of the league has garnered ten time more Indian viewers than the opening of the football world cup. This made Pro Kabaddi the second biggest sport in India after cricket.
