IPL 2017 Auction Highlights
IPL (Indian Premier League) is one of the biggest cricket leagues in the world. Now that it finished nine years and is entering its 1oth anniversary. Yesterday IPL auction 10 took place in Bengaluru. Ben Stokes set a new record at the auction. He was the costliest buy and no overseas player had ever attracted such a huge sum. Here are some of the highlights of IPL 2017 auction:
Ben Stokes and pacer Tymal Mills turned out to be the hottest bets at the IPL action. Rising Pune Supergiants acquired Ben Stokes for ₹14.5 crore. It is a record price for an overseas player in the IPL auction. Tymal Mill was snapped by Royal Challengers Bangalore for 12 crore.
Ben Stokes surpassed the record of Shane Watson of ₹9.5 crore.
Mumbai Indians started bidding for him while Royal Challengers Bangalore joined in the bid. Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad were in the fray, but Rising Pune Supergiants bought him.
Along with Ben Stokes, Angelo Mathews, Eoin Morgan, Ishant Sharma and Chris Woakes have the base price of ₹2 crore.
Out of them Ben Stokes was snapped for a record price.
Among the remaining, Chris Woakes was sold for ₹4.2 crore, and Angelo Mathew and Eoin Morgan were sold for the set base price i.e. ₹2 crore. Ishant Sharma was unsold.
Along with Ishant Sharma, some other popular Indian players Irfan Pathan, Pragyan Ojha, Unmukt Chand and Cheteshwar Pujara were unsold in the IPL auction.
Kings XI Punjab have the highest auction reward with ₹23.1 crore, followed by Royal Challengers Bangalore with ₹22.8 crore.
Mumbai Indians have the least prize with ₹11.5 crores.
However, Mumbai Indians have the most number of players with 20. Kolkata Knight Riders have the least number of players with 14.
Martin Guptill is the first player in the IPL auction who remained unsold. His base price is ₹50 lakhs.
