Indian restaurant wins award in the US
Chai Pani, an Indian food restaurant in North Carolina, won an outstanding restaurant award in the US. It has been voted the best restaurant in America.
The restaurant serves Indian street food at affordable prices in Asheville, North Carolina. Chef Meherwan Irani runs this delicious street food serving restaurant, Chai Pani. He was nominated for James Beard Foundation Award five times.
Irani, while receiving the award, said that restaurants could transform the communities and world because they have the power to do so.
Chai Pani was named the most outstanding restaurant at the James Beard Foundation Awards in Chicago.
James Beard Foundation is a non-profit culinary arts organisation. It is a New York-based organization. James Beard was an American chef and cookbook author. He was also called the Dean of American Cookery for his culinary skills.
Due to the pandemic, the awards were cancelled in 2020 and 2021. It was the first time that the awards were announced after the pandemic.
Chai Pani topped many popular restaurants in the US and other renowned nominees like Brennan’s in New Orleans.
The speciality of Chai Pani is street food, and its ambience is energetic and fun-filled. The chaat served by the restaurant is a mix of different flavours like sweet, tangy and spicy. Some of the chaats served by the restaurant are green mango chaat, potato chaat, bhelpuri, corn bhel etc.
Owamni, a Native American restaurant, won the Best New Restaurant award. The restaurant is located in Minneapolis. Most of its staff, i.e. 75% of the staff in this restaurant, is indigenous.
The nominees and award recipients of this year reflect the makeup of the US better than in the past years, with more diversity, especially geographic variety.
As per several reports, inflation is rising. As a result, Americans are paying the highest prices for food in the last 40 years.
