Yoga poses that help women with motherhood
Trying to conceive can feel overwhelming, full of tests, appointments, and pressure. But alongside medical treatment, many women are turning to yoga for its calming, restorative effects on the body and mind.
Yoga may not be a cure for fertility issues, but it can support reproductive health in powerful ways.
According to some fertility experts, specific yoga poses help improve blood flow to the reproductive organs, regulate hormones, and reduce the kind of stress that often interferes with conception.
Here are a few poses they recommend for women looking to support their fertility naturally.
Butterfly Pose (Baddha Konasana)
Ideal for women with tight hips or lower back discomfort, this pose opens the pelvic region and stimulates the ovaries. It also increases circulation in the lower body, especially important for those who spend a lot of time sitting. Practising this regularly can help energise the reproductive organs and create a more supportive internal environment for pregnancy.
Legs-Up-the-Wall Pose (Viparita Karani)
Simple yet deeply effective, this semi-inverted pose allows fresh blood to flow into the abdomen and pelvis. It relieves tired legs, lowers cortisol levels, and triggers the body’s relaxation response. Dr. Khatri suggests including this at the end of the day, particularly for women feeling drained or anxious.
Child’s Pose (Balasana)
This gentle resting posture is as emotionally healing as it is physically soothing. It helps calm the nervous system, reduces stress, and relieves tension in the hips and spine. It is a nurturing pose that allows the body to pause, reflect, and reset, something often needed in fertility journeys.
Cat-Cow Stretch (Marjaryasana-Bitilasana)
By keeping the spine mobile and the pelvic region relaxed, this flowing sequence enhances circulation to the uterus and ovaries. It also promotes spinal flexibility and reduces abdominal tension, which can improve alignment and hormonal function.
Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana)
This heart-opening backbend is great for stimulating energy in the lower abdomen. It massages the adrenal glands, supports hormone production, and helps rebuild vitality after menstruation. It is recommended for its energising effect and its role in strengthening the reproductive system.
Bridge Pose (Setu Bandhasana)
Often underrated, this pose strengthens the pelvic floor and stimulates the thyroid gland, both essential for reproductive health. It also helps regulate emotions and build internal stability, which is helpful for women undergoing fertility treatment or trying to conceive naturally.
