Baahubali prequel series to come to Netflix
The two-film Baahubali franchise has been one of the biggest successes to ever come out of the Indian film industry. Both films are ranked among the top-grossing Indian films of all time.
The Baahubali films also proved that the Indian film industry could make movies as massive and epic as the great Hollywood movies.
Now, a recent announcement has come out that Netflix will be releasing a prequel series to the Baahubali films.
This prequel show will partly be an adaptation of The Rise of Sivagami by Anand Neelakantan. The Rise of Sivagami is a prequel novel to Baahubali: The Beginning, the first film in the two-part epic.
The Netflix Baahubali sequel series will be titled Baahubali: Before the Beginning. The show has already been given a two-season order. The series will have nine episodes in its first season, which will be based on The Rise of Sivagami.
A proposed novel trilogy, also called Baahubali – Before the Beginning, has been proposed. The Rise of Sivagami is the first book in this proposed trilogy. All three books will be written by Neelakantan. The Netflix series will be co-directed by Deva Katta and Praveen Sataru.
Katta has mentioned that the Netflix series will have three seasons, one for each book in the novel trilogy. If the show is a success, it could easily have a third season.
This prequel series will portray Queen Sivagami’s journey from girlhood to queenhood. The show will also show the rise of Mahishmati from a city-state to an empire.
Baahubali: Before the Beginning will build on the franchise’s overall narrative style, using the same kind of high production values and incredible visuals. Above all, this series promises to build on the franchise’s epic storytelling.
Since the two-part Baahubali epic was such a huge success, it is very likely that the show will be just as spectacular and impressive.
