Railway passengers can transfer tickets to family members

Good news to railway passengers. Now, passengers can transfer their confirmed tickets to their family members when they are unable to travel. Indian Railways is implementing several new methods for their passengers. Now, the changes made in the confirmed tickets which is available on their website is another reason for passengers to delight.

The new changes allow the passengers to transfer their confirmed tickets to the family members if they are unable to travel and use the tickets. But the change should be mentioned to the specific authorities at least 24 hours prior to the departure of the train. The family members that are allowed to transfer the tickets to include father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband or wife.

The Railway Administration approves the transfer of tickets or berths/seats of the passengers by authorizing the power to the concerned Chief Reservation Supervisor. All the Chief Reservation Supervisors of main stations are authorized to allow the change of name of a passenger that has a seat or berth. Application must be submitted to the concerned authority with ID proof.

The rules are specified as follows to transfer the confirmed tickets to their family members. If the passenger is a Government servant, who is proceeding on duty and appropriate authority, he can make a request to transfer the ticket in writing 24 hours prior to scheduled departure of trains.


If the passenger is a student of a recognized educational institution, then confirmed ticket can be transferred to another student of the same institute. The head of the institution can make the request in writing. It should be done 48 hours in advance before the scheduled departure of the train.

If a passengers is a member of a marriage party and is unable to travel at the last moment, then the head of such party can make request in writing 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train to transfer the ticket to any other person of that party.

The head of the group of cadets of National Cadet Corps can also make such request 24 hours prior to the departure of the train.
