Farming is a difficult task. Yet, some farmers are passionate about farming. They explore innovative ways to find solutions in their day-to-day life. This Telangana farmer is one such person. His simple irrigation techniques are useful to many farmers.

Chintal Venkat Reddy from Hyderabad is a recipient of the Padma Shri award. His soil management techniques are notable for which he has many patents. He also developed a mud spray technology to combat the locust attacks.

Besides, he developed an innovative technique to integrate vitamin D in rice and wheat naturally. Vitamin D deficiency is the most common condition in many people nowadays due to lack of exposure to the Sun.

Reddy claims that due to his innovative techniques, the rice and wheat he grows are enriched with vitamin D. while the rice has 102 IU to 141 IU of vitamin D per 100g, wheat has 1606 IU to 1832 IU of vitamin D per 100 g.

This 70-year-old from Alwal, Hyderabad, cultivates vitamin D-enriched rice and wheat. Interestingly, the content of vitamin D in grains is increasing each year. He says that these varieties can help fight malnutrition which is common in many children.

He is ready to help other farmers to cultivate these varieties if the government is interested. If the government is not interested, he would like to share the technology with multinational companies to produce vitamin D-enriched grains on a large scale. His goal is to help people ultimately.

Reddy has been experimenting with various techniques for the past 15 years. To restore the soil fertility, he replaced the topsoil with soil from a depth around 15 years ago. Since then, Reddy has been exploring different innovative ways. He has various WhatsApp groups to help farmers use innovative cultivation methods.
