In the heart of Sircilla, a Class 10 student’s innovative spirit has brought a beacon of hope to his family and the local weaver community.

Jakkani Hemanth, a diligent student at Kusumaramaiah Zilla Parishad High School for Boys, was moved by the sight of his mother laboriously folding cloths from their power loom.

Following his father’s demise amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the responsibility of being the family’s sole provider fell on his mother’s shoulders, inspiring Hemanth to seek out a solution to ease her workload.

With determination and a keen desire to alleviate his mother’s hardship, Hemanth embarked on a journey of innovation.

He envisioned a machine that could streamline the tedious process of cloth folding, transforming hours of manual labour into a task that could be completed in minutes.

Turning to his school for guidance, Hemanth, alongside his physics guide Pakala Shankar Goud, utilized recycled materials to bring his idea to life.

The duo sourced wheels, chains, motors, and sensors from discarded power loom materials, dedicating nearly two months to the construction of a prototype.

This prototype, a testament to Hemanth’s ingenuity and dedication, significantly reduces the time and effort required for cloth folding.

What once took hours now takes only about 10 minutes, a revolutionary improvement for the weaving industry in Sircilla.

The innovation caught the attention of district officials during a demonstration. Anuraag Jayanti, the district collector, and additional collector P Gouthami were notably impressed.

Recognizing the potential of Hemanth’s creation, Jayanti pledged to assist in securing patent rights for the machine and facilitated its evaluation at T-Works in Hyderabad.

The story of Hemanth’s invention is not just about technological advancement but also about filial love, community support, and resilience in the face of adversity.

His mother, Rupa, touched by her son’s efforts, has appealed to the government for assistance, hoping to secure a better future for her family and support her son’s innovative endeavours.

Hemanth’s story is a compelling reminder of how necessity can indeed be the mother of invention, leading to solutions that can transform lives and communities.
