Most blind people generally depend on the white cane to move around. However, this new innovation is a huge breakthrough for the blind. It is a small ring-like gadget that improves mobility for the visually disabled.

While everyone was working on improving the white cane to improve mobility, Abhinav Verma and his IIT friends thought of an entirely new device. They wanted to create a new small device which can render the white cane obsolete.

Three years ago, the students created a wearable glove incorporated with a sonar-based device. This was their first step in removing the dependency on the white cane.

However, it did not stop there. Abhinav started a company called EmbroS and worked on improving the device further in terms of its efficiency and size. After a lot of hard work, he finally managed to develop Live Braille. It is like a small ring which weighs about 29 grams. It is by far the smallest and lightest smart device in the world for the blind.

The ring can detect obstacles within a range of four meters. The ring works by sending out 50 ultrasonic pulses a second to detect obstacles. It immediately provides feedback to the user so they can avoid the obstacles. The device gives the information of how far the obstacles are, whether they are moving or not, and even the texture of the object.

The user receives a vibration based on the distance and type of obstacle. Stronger vibrations mean that obstacle is close and strong and vice-versa. Based on that, the user can alter his/her path. Live Braille works very fast in giving feedback. The user does not have to worry about not knowing what is around them.

Abhinav and his team were happy that their device not only helped them walk but also helped them run.
