Air pollution remains a critical challenge globally, impacting both health and productivity. Addressing this issue, Angad Daryani, founder of Praan, has developed advanced air purifiers specifically for industrial and outdoor environments.

Launched in 2017 while Daryani was a student at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Praan’s journey began with a homemade filterless air purifier prototype. It evolved into sophisticated devices aimed at combating urban and industrial air pollution.

Having personally suffered from asthma, Daryani was deeply motivated to tackle air quality issues, leading to the creation of Praan. His initial efforts were simple, utilizing everyday items to construct the prototype.

This endeavour quickly grew into a more serious pursuit as he returned to India, continued to enhance his designs, and began gaining online support.

The development of Praan’s air purifiers advanced significantly with the support of Naresh Shahani, who provided an unsecured loan of $15K to fund research and development.

This financial boost helped transition from rudimentary models to the launch of the MK One, Praan’s first commercial air purifier.

The subsequent development of the MKII model marked a significant improvement, offering eight times the filtration capacity and ten times the speed of its predecessor.

Standing 6.5 feet tall, the MKII model effectively cleans 1,300 cubic feet per minute, making it ideal for large spaces such as factories, airports, and shopping malls.

Praan’s technology operates without traditional filters. Instead, it uses fans to draw in polluted air, charges the particles, and traps them in a charged cylinder.

Once full, the cylinder releases the particles into a collection pocket. This innovative method reduces ownership costs and maintenance, offering a sustainable solution to air purification.

Despite challenges, including setbacks during the COVID-19 pandemic, Praan has secured significant venture capital backing from notable investors. Their support underscores the potential of Praan’s technology to revolutionize air purification.

With a focus on cost-effective manufacturing and supply chain advantages in India, Praan is poised to make a significant impact on global air quality. It particularly works in settings where air pollution severely affects daily life and health.
