How a man is turning rainwater into a bottled business

In Surat, Gujarat, one visionary entrepreneur is transforming the way we perceive and use rainwater.

Rahul Kacha, driven by a deep belief in sustainability, saw not only a need but an opportunity in the natural resource that most of us overlook: rainwater.

What if rainwater could be something more than just a resource for irrigation or a source of replenishment for dry wells?

What if it could become an everyday necessity — clean drinking water that’s both eco-friendly and accessible?

This was the idea that led Rahul to launch a groundbreaking business in 2021, where he aimed to bottle rainwater for drinking. The concept began simply, inspired by his own need for clean, potable water at home.

Rahul, an avid reader with a growing awareness of environmental issues, knew that rainwater could be filtered and purified to a level that made it safe for consumption.

Soon, his ambition expanded from self-sufficiency to helping others. He realized countless families could benefit from access to clean, sustainable water, but many lacked the infrastructure or resources to make it possible.

With a modest budget, Rahul faced a significant challenge: securing investment to turn his idea into a reality. Determined to make it happen, he pitched his vision to potential investors.

His persistence paid off, and with the support of his backers, Rahul was able to build an impressive rainwater harvesting facility.

Two enormous storage tanks were installed, one with a two lakh litre capacity and the other holding one lakh litres, at a total cost of Rs 35 lakh.

From there, his journey as an entrepreneur took off. Rahul began spreading the message of rainwater harvesting, meeting people, hosting seminars, and using social media to raise awareness about the environmental and economic benefits of this practice.

Today, his business supplies filtered rainwater to over 150 households in Surat, offering an eco-conscious alternative to bottled water that is both affordable and sustainable.

But Rahul’s vision goes beyond simply selling bottled rainwater. He is committed to empowering others by helping them establish their own rainwater harvesting systems.

By teaching people how to collect, store, and purify rainwater, he’s not just selling a product—he’s creating a movement.

Rahul Kacha is proving that rainwater, often seen as a fleeting resource, can be harnessed to create lasting change, transforming sustainability into a profitable and accessible business model for the future.
