This smart A-powered device is fixing Bengaluru’s water woes

As Bengaluru struggles with water shortages and rising costs, one innovation is quietly transforming how residents manage and conserve water.

At the heart of this change is Agua, an AI-powered water management system developed by Dr Rohit Nara, founder of Nara Technologies.

Dr Rohit’s smart solution tackles Bengaluru’s chronic water mismanagement through technology.

His AI-enabled system uses smart water meters installed at apartment water inlets. These meters are equipped with flow sensors that track water usage in real-time and send data to the cloud.

Residents can monitor this data via a mobile app, gaining insights into their daily consumption.

What sets Agua apart is its leak detection capability. The system doesn’t just measure usage; it identifies hidden leaks in underground tanks and pipelines, which often go unnoticed.

Some buildings have found up to 10% of water lost due to such undetected issues. Another key innovation is dynamic billing, which calculates charges based on both the source of the water (e.g., borewell or tanker) and its availability.

This makes water use fairer and more efficient, encouraging people to prioritise sustainable sources like borewells.

The mobile app plays a central role. It sends real-time alerts for abnormal consumption and provides detailed usage analytics, helping users adjust their habits.

This behaviour-based conservation approach has proven highly effective. As a result, apartments using Agua’s system have seen water consumption drop by 35% and bills slashed by over 55%.

The system is now active in over 450 flats across Bengaluru. By combining automation, AI, and user-friendly apps, Dr Rohit’s technology makes water management proactive, not reactive.

It ensures transparency, promotes accountability, and helps entire communities shift toward more sustainable water use.

Agua’s innovation shows how tech-driven solutions can fix deep-rooted urban challenges, saving money, water, and peace of mind in a city where every drop counts.
