Surat Diamond Bourse to become the world’s largest office building
A new contender is set to dethrone the Pentagon as the world’s largest office building. Located in Surat, Gujarat, the Surat Diamond Bourse is poised to claim this prestigious title.
Surat, renowned as the gem capital of the world, where 90 per cent of global diamonds are cut, will now boast a sprawling 15-storey complex spanning 35 acres of land.
Comprising nine interconnected rectangular structures, the Surat Diamond Bourse aims to become a thriving diamond trading hub. It can accommodate over 65,000 professionals in the industry, including cutters, polishers, and traders.
The Surat Diamond Bourse has been a long-awaited project, constructed meticulously for four years.
Offering a staggering floor space of over 7.1 million square feet, this monumental edifice is slated for official inauguration in November, with the honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi presiding over the ceremony.
The primary objective behind this grand venture is to alleviate the burden of daily travel to Mumbai for business purposes, a common ordeal faced by thousands of individuals.
The architectural marvel of the Surat Diamond Bourse is the brainchild of Indian firm Morphogenesis, selected through a rigorous international design competition.
As a not-for-profit organization registered under section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013, the SDB Diamond Bourse has spearheaded this monumental project.
The complex not only encompasses the expansive office spaces, which were promptly acquired by diamond companies even before the construction commenced but also boasts a sprawling recreational zone and a massive parking area spanning 20 lakh square feet.
By providing a ‘one-stop destination’ for diamond professionals, the Surat Diamond Bourse aims to streamline operations and catalyze growth in the industry.
It seeks to foster collaboration, innovation, and trade within its vast confines. With its strategic location in Surat, the heart of the diamond-cutting industry, this extraordinary complex is poised to reshape the landscape of diamond trading.
