Record cleaning drive in Versova - Fusion - WeRIndia

Versova is a popular location located in the surroundings of the Andheri area in Mumbai. The location is renowned for its beach and the fort. Many people visit the location. The location was highlighted in the news due to the record cleaning drive of its residents.

As many tourists visit the beach, the area is filled with garbage and trash. So, residents of Versova decided to clean the location with the motivation of Swachh Bharat.

Versova Resident Volunteers (VRV) is an organization. It was founded by Afroz Shah, who is a lawyer in Bombay High Court lawyer. VRV has been running as a citizen-led campaign to Clean up Versova Rock Beach.

VRV started as a small drive on last Thursday to clean Versova beach. On that day, volunteers collected 17,500kg of trash. Few more volunteers joined them on Saturday. All of them worked in three shifts and collected 40,500kg of trash. To their surprise, the next day i.e. on Sunday more than 300 volunteers and 80 BMC workers joined in the cleaning drive.

On that day, they managed to collect 87,000kg of trash using machinery where required. The cleaning drive was started at 7: 00 a. m. on that day. The volunteers collected 1.45 lakh kg garbage from the cleaning drive in just three days. This is an example showing how like-minded people can change circumstances when they join hands together.

Actors such as Pooja Bedi and Deepak Dobriyal also helped in this drive to clean the beach. Now, the beach looks very clean.

Afroz Shah, the founder of VRV said that they had established a target of collecting 1 lakh kg of waste in three days, but they managed to collect more than that with the support of volunteers who joined the drive. He expressed that he is glad that people from all walks of life including locals and celebrities joined in this drive and did their job.
