President of India presents Nari Shakti awards
President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, had given Nari Shakti awards to outstanding women at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
15 exceptional women have been honoured with Nari Shakti Puraskar on Sunday on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
To mark the occasion of International Women’s Day, President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday gave away Nari Shakti awards to outstanding women at a function in Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Each year the Nari Shakti awards are given to individuals, groups and institutions for their exceptional work towards the cause of women empowerment, especially for vulnerable and marginalised women.
The Ministry of Women and Child Development instituted these awards in 1999. There are six institutional categories and two individual categories in these awards.
The award carries a cash prize of ₹1 lakh and a citation. This year, 15 outstanding women have been honoured with Nari Shakti awards.
104-year-old athlete Mann Kaur is one among the awardees. She bagged more than 30 medals in track and field events.
Indian Air Force’s first women fighter pilots Mohana Singh, Bhawana Kanth and Avani Chaturvedi are honoured with Nari Shakti award. They said that they are privileged and honoured to receive the award.
98-year-old Karthyayini Amma who topped the literacy exam in 2018 is another awardee.
Farmer Padala Bhudevi is a role model for women farmers and rural women entrepreneurs. Bina Devi is known as Mushroom Mahila. They both received the award.
Environmentalist Chami Murmu planted more than 25 lakh trees. Lady Mason Kalavati Devi worked on reducing open defecation in Kanpur.
Classical vocalist Kaushiki Chakroborty, Twin Mountaineers Tashi and Nungshi Malik, Artisan Arifa Jan, Automotive research professional Rashmi Urdhwardeshe are some other awardees.
105-year-old Bhageerathi Amma is an awardee who could not travel to Delhi to receive the award.
