Monetary Museum in Mumbai

Though the printing of money started in 18 century, various shaped coins made with different materials were prevalent in India prior to that. These coins reveal the skills of the coin makers and sculptors of those days.
Visitors can have the history of currency notes and coins, and the existence of money in India in this museum. Earlier, the currency notes with denomination of Rs. 1,000 and Rs.10,000 in circulation were demonetized in January 1946 to limit unaccounted money. Later, the currency notes with Rs. 1,000, Rs. 5,000 and Rs.10,000 were reintroduced in the year 1954 which were demonetized again in January 1978. Again, currency notes with Rs. 1,000 were reintroduced in November 2000. Now, it is the highest denomination of Indian currency.
