International Olympiad: 171 Indians awarded

Four and a half million students from different countries participated in the International Olympiad for the year 2016 to 2017, and one hundred and seventy-one of the awarded ones were Indian students.

The winners were awarded respectively with first place receiving a gold medal and ₹ 50,000, second place receiving a silver medal and ₹ 25,000, and third place receiving a bronze medal and ₹ 10,000.

From 5,100 schools around the world, around 42,000 students achieved either top level or state level ranks, and about 800,000 students have been awarded with medals of excellence.

In the ceremony of prize distribution held on Sunday, ten of the best principals and fifty of the best teachers were chosen to be awarded, acknowledged for the exceptional performance of their students.


The Science Olympiad Foundation, or SOF, has an aim to improve the competitive spirit of students in school throughout the entire country.

The Foundation has organized six Olympiads, being the International General Knowledge Olympiad, or IGKO, the International Company Secretaries Olympiad, or ICSO, the National Cyber Olympiad, or NCO, the National Science Olympiad, or NSO, the International Mathematics Olympiad, or IMO, and the International English Olympiad, or IEO.

The Southeast Asian Mathematical Olympiad, or SEAMO, will take place on August 6th, and it will be conducted here in India for the first time.

Eleven Asian countries, including Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines participating, students from Class 6 to Class 12 will be able to take part in the Olympiad.

It will be a good platform for students to put their mathematical aptitude to the test, and put themselves in comparison with students from other Asian countries.

The duration of the examination will be two hours in length, and will consist of multiple choice questions in mathematics.

Registrations will be open until the end of July, with all students who take part getting a participation certificate.

Students scoring in the top 0.025% will also get gold plated metals, silver plated ones will be given to the next 1%, and bronze plated ones will be given to the next 2%.
