India’s milestones after Independence

It has been 70 years since India got its independence. There have been many moments that Indians can be proud of for their country. India has excelled in several fields and invented many new technologies. Whether it is in space or in cinema, there have been many milestones for India since its independence. Here are some of the proudest moments of India.

Eradication of Polio

At the time of Independence, Polio has been a huge threat for Indians. In March 2014, the World Health Organization certified that the South-East Asian region including India is a polio free region. This increased the life expectancy of Indians.

India won 101 medals in Common Wealth Games


In the year 2010, India hosted the 2010 Common Wealth Games in Delhi. That year, India won 101 medals, including 38 gold. This was the first time in history India won more than 100 medals in total. India came second that year after Australia.

The Nuclear and Missile programs

India’s defense increased by miles with the strides it made nuclear and missile programs. India has been running the two programs simultaneously. India’s missile program has great technologies like the Agni, Prithvi, Akash and Nag. BrahMos is the world’s fastest Cruise missile. It was jointly developed by India and Russia.

Launch of Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) or Mangalyaan

In the year 2013, India made huge strides in terms of outer space exploration. The successful mission of Mars Orbiter put India in the spotlight of international space exploration countries. November 5, 2013 saw the lift-off of Mars Orbiter Mission spacecraft. It was India’s first interplanetary mission.

Mangalyaan entered Mars’ Orbit on September 24, 2014. India became the first Asian country and only the fourth country in the world to enter the Mars orbit in its first attempt. The aim of the mission is to to collect data from the planet and also showcase India’s rocket launch systems.

There have been many other proud events for India. Many Indians have excelled in sports, movies, pageants etc. They bought pride to this nation. Happy Independence Day!
