HP becomes manual scavenger free state
Himachal Pradesh has become a state without manual scavenger. The statement was released by Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dhani Ram Shandil stated. The minister has added that this goal has been achieved due to the proper implementation of Manual Scavengers and Rehabilitation Act, 2013, by the government.
The families of people who had to work in inhuman and unsanitary conditions earlier were give rehabilitation by giving them proper financial aid. In the families with members who were affected by such working conditions, are being given a stipend of Rs.3,000 per month for skill development training.
In order to ensure the proper implementation of the Act, the minister stated that a state level monitoring committee has been formed. This will ensure that the affected families and their wards could get proper training and rehabilitation facilities they need for proper livelihood.
District level vigilance committees are also formed by Deputy Commissioners to make sure of the proper implementation of the provisions of the Act. A recent World Bank report had also lauded Himachal Pradesh for making rapid progress to achieve status of “Nirmal State (open defecation free)”.
