ATS’ first woman DCP is a toddler’s mom
Women of India are making inspiration strides in all fields. The latest of them is Geeta Chavan, a 32 year old mother to a three-year old boy. Recently, she became the first woman Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) to be appointed into the state’s anti-terrorism squad (ATS). ATS was setup in 2004.
Chavan is in charge of the crucial data unit. She is responsible for analyzing the trend in terror pattern and the type of explosives used in attacks. She has to cull the information regarding the role of outfits in previous bomb blasts, the modus operandi used, roles of accused people, and types of bombs used, explosives and devices which are used by the current terror outfits in several parts of the country. She also has to focus on the relations between various terror suspects in multiple states or countries along with their financiers.
Regarding her new job, she stated that the new DCP position at this unit is a challenging one but she is up to it. She added that since this is her first stint with the ATS, she is gaining experience every day. The role of DCP needs her to be able to solve all types of cases and be fearless and she says that she is ready for it.
