In Jharkhand, a unique library has been established exclusively for women, providing them with a dedicated space to prepare for competitive exams. This remarkable initiative was led by Gumla Deputy Commissioner Sushant Gaurav.

What sets this library apart is its all-women setup, operating independently and free from government intervention.

Named after Savitri Bai Phule, India’s first woman teacher and social worker, the library boasts a seating capacity of 400 women. It is managed by a steering committee comprising members from the local community.

Equipped with essential amenities like free Wi-Fi, computer systems, and a wide range of books covering various subjects relevant to competitive examinations, the library aims to support women in their pursuit of educational success.

This two-story library houses approximately 7,000 books focused on competitive exams and various professions, along with eight computers. Students are welcome to study in the library for extended periods, with the facility accommodating continuous 13-hour sessions.

To ensure accessibility for all, the membership fee has been set at a modest ₹200 per month, which covers maintenance and staff salaries.

The decision to establish this library stems from the recognition of the need to provide women with a safe and conducive environment to prepare for competitive exams and excel in their chosen careers. Additionally, the library will host motivational classes specifically designed for girls, addressing topics such as menstrual hygiene.

The library’s exclusive focus on girls creates a comfortable and empowering space for them to pursue their dreams.

Deputy Commissioner Gaurav emphasizes that by devoting themselves to their studies, girls can enhance their skills and contribute meaningfully to the nation.

The library includes three group discussion rooms, and girls will benefit from free Wi-Fi with a minimum speed of 100 Mbps, ensuring uninterrupted access to information.

Furthermore, the library enjoys a 24-hour electricity supply, supplemented by solar backup, enabling continuous study opportunities.

This self-sustaining library operates with minimal government interference, allowing for efficient management and autonomy.

By providing women with an environment that encourages learning and growth, the library aims to support their aspirations and help them achieve their goals.

Through this initiative, Gumla Deputy Commissioner Sushant Gaurav has created a valuable space that empowers women to realize their potential and make significant contributions to society.
