1 January – Establishment of NITI Aayog in the place of Planning Commission of India

13 January – Indian Railways launched a train that can operate both on diesel and CNG

26 January – US President Barack Obama was the chief guest of India’s Republic Day celebrations.


31 January – The Agni-V was test launched from a canister in Wheeler Island

10 February – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), clean swept in the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections. AAP secured 67 out of 70 seats and Arvind Kejriwal became the chief minister of Delhi.

24 March –Section 66A of the Information Technology Act, 2000 was declared as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of India. A pre-paid RuPay debit card was launched by Indian Railways to book tickets.

26 March – National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) launched Polar Remotely Operated Vehicle (PROVe), to be deployed to study the monsoon
