1 January – Establishment of NITI Aayog in the place of Planning Commission of India

13 January – Indian Railways launched a train that can operate both on diesel and CNG

26 January – US President Barack Obama was the chief guest of India’s Republic Day celebrations.

31 January – The Agni-V was test launched from a canister in Wheeler Island

10 February – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), clean swept in the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections. AAP secured 67 out of 70 seats and Arvind Kejriwal became the chief minister of Delhi.

24 March –Section 66A of the Information Technology Act, 2000 was declared as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of India. A pre-paid RuPay debit card was launched by Indian Railways to book tickets.

26 March – National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) launched Polar Remotely Operated Vehicle (PROVe), to be deployed to study the monsoon

28 March – ISRO placed IRNSS 1-D satellite in orbit by a PSLV C-27 launch vehicle

1 April – Government launched FAME India scheme to enhance the sales of electric and hybrid vehicle sales

5 April –”Give it Up” campaign was launched by Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan urging people who can afford their LPG cylinders at market value to give up their LPG subsidy.

8 April – Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched MUDRA Bank to fund small entrepreneurs.

12 April –Air Pegasus is an Indian regional low-cost airline. It made first flight.

22 April – Indian Railways introduced “utsonmobile”, a mobile app. It facilitates users to purchase unreserved tickets.

5 May – The Akash missile was inaugurated into the Indian Army.

7 May – The Parliament passed the Constitution (119th Amendment) Bill, 2013 to solve its territorial disputes with Bangladesh.

9 May – Prime Minister launched 3 large-scale social security schemes, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, and Atal Pension Yojana.

21 June – The first International Yoga Day was observed.

12 — 22 October – Anti-terror drills were jointly conducted by India in Kunming, China

16 October – National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC) was declared as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court and TRAI instructed the telecom operators to pay Rs.1 to subscribers for each dropped call with effect from January 1, 2016 onwards.

27 October – Finance Minister Arun Jaitley launched the e-Sahayog program to facilitate income tax department to notify taxpayers remotely with ease.

31 October – India observed the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day)

26 November – India observed Samvidhan Divas (Constitution Day) to mark the 125 birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on the day when Indian constitution was adopted.
