100 more villages electrified
The government announced that 104 more villages have been electrified in the past few days. With these new 104 villages, the total number of villages that have been electrified stands at 7,549.
The government of India has set a target to reach 18,452 villages. They want to turn that many un-electrified villages to electrified by May 1, 2018.
According to the power ministry of India, in the last week, there has been great work related to electrifying villages. More than 100 villages have been electrified across the country from 25th April, 2016 to 1st May, 2016.
Bringing electricity to villages has been done under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna (DDUGJY).
State-wise, here are the number of villages electrified in each state. The highest number of villages belonged to Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. Both of the states managed to bring electricity to 17 villages in just one week! Jharkhand follows the two states by converting 16 villages.
The number of villages in other states include: 10 in Rajasthan, four in Bihar, four in Chhattisgarh, 16 in Odisha, seven in Madhya Pradesh, four in Manipur, seven in Uttar Pradesh and two in Himachal Pradesh.
The government has taken this project on a mission mode. The aim is to bring electricity to as many villages as possible. Even in today’s digital age with initiatives like Digital India, there are many villages where people don’t even know the concept of electricity.
The strategy that implementation will be done in 12 months. The whole process is divided into 12 stage milestones which are used to monitor the process.
So far, there have been 7,549 villages which received electricity under this process. In order to move the process faster, officials said that there will be close monitoring through Gram Vidyut Abhiyanta (GVA).
