Up government to launch Operation Durachari
To improve the security of women and to control crimes against them, the Uttar Pradesh government is mulling to launch a new initiative.
It decided to launch Operation Durachari to name and shame offenders of crimes against women.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath issued directives on this matter to police departments. As per this directives, the posters of criminals against women will be placed on road crossings throughout the state.
The UP government earlier formed anti-Romeo squads to ensure the safety of college-going girls.
As per the new initiative, the government will put up the posters of eve-teasers, accused of crimes against women, and habitual offenders of sex-related crimes on road crossings across the state.
This special drive is intended to pin down the offenders of crimes against women through name shaming.
The CM ordered police to prepare a list of guilty people involved in crimes against women. He also asked to revive anti-Romeo squads and increase foot patrolling in vulnerable regions.
He asked the police to be vigilant and said that the beat in-charge, chowki in-charge, station officer, the circle officer would be held responsible for the occurrence of any incident related to crime against women. Also, they would be liable for any action taken against them.
Further, the CM entrusted women police personnel to check crimes against women and take action against offenders involved in crimes.
There is another initiative, Operation Shakti in the state. IG Lucknow range Lakshmi Singh has been running the operation under which 2,200 criminals were taken action.
Some of the criminals involved in crimes against women were issued notices and some others were controlled. FIRs were filed against some of them.
