Things to know about National Common Mobility Card
To allow hassle-free movements at entry and exit points at Metro stations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday launched the service of the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for the Airport Express Line. With this, the Metro travel on the Airport Express Line of Delhi Metro will be easy.
He also inaugurated driverless Metro operations through video conferencing. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also joined the event.
PM Modi on this occasion said that the government is trying to revolutionize the infrastructure of Delhi to reveal the greatness of the national capital.
The initiation was taken as part of ‘One Nation One Card’ initiative. NCMC can be used at all transportation locations and made payments for all Metro journeys.
Here are the important things about the National Common Mobility Card:
- The idea of NCMC was proposed by the Nandan Nilekani committee. Nandan Nilekani committee is a five-member committee set up by the Reserve Bank of India. Nilekani also suggested numerous measures to promote digital transactions and thereby reduce the cash transactions in the country.
- NCMC is an inter-operable transport card and can be used to pay for Metro, suburban railways, and bus services. It enables automatic fare collection. It is so simple that users can pay through their smartphones.
- NCMC allows Metro passengers to pay with RuPay debit card for all their Metro journeys. It is available on the Delhi Metro network by 2022.
- As it collects the fare automatically through a smartphone, passengers can simply move through the entry and exit points.
- The financial department directed the banks to make their debit cards NCMC compliant so that the facility will be available to all users of debit cards.
- This service covers the entire stretch of Delhi Metro.
- The upcoming Metro projects will have the system to accept NCMC. Besides, all Metro stations will be equipped with AFC gates.
