More smart cities announced

More smart cities announced

The center has released a second list of smart cities that are being planned. The announcement was released by Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu. In the list, the top position was taken by Lucknow. Other cities that were on the list are: Warangal, Dharamsala, Chandigarh, Raipur, New Town Kolkata, Bhagalpur, Panaji, Port Blair, Imphal, Ranchi, Agartala and Faridabad. This is the second list released by the center regarding the smart cities.

The Smart City is one the flagship programs of the government. It has been met with a lot of positive approval from many citizens. The idea behind this program is to make certain cities become well developed and have advanced standards.

The Central government has already prepared a budget of Rs 48,000 crore for development of 100 smart cities. In the list, all Union Territories including Delhi were included.

Each of the smart city would have several advanced features. They provide the residents with a stable and comfortable life while using technology to make the city futuristic. Every smart city would be provided with proper clean water supply. They would also have continuous electricity supply.


The cities would be maintained well with proper sanitation and solid waste management system. The citizens living in these cities would have proper urban mobility and efficient public transport systems. People would also have access to affordable housing in these cities. The plan is to make housing accessible even for poor people.

The cities would be digitized well enough. There will be good IT connectivity and digitization of several things. E-Governance would be a part of these cities and citizen participation would be encouraged. The cities will be provided with proper security to create a sustainable environment. Women and children security is also prioritized. Health and education will also be more accessible.
