List of 98 smart cities announced by Center | Fusion - WeRIndia

The Urban Development Ministry has announced the names of cities which are selected for the NDA government’s flagship project of Smart City. Earlier, the guidelines and criteria for 100 smart cities have been announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Among the project list, Mumbai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Jaipur, Ranchi and Bhubaneswar found place. Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of smart cities with 13 nominations. In order to develop these 100 smart cities, Center has put a fund of Rs 48,000 crore. In the list, all Union Territories including Delhi are nominated. Here are the number of cities from each state.

• 13 cities from UP
• 12 from Tamil Nadu
• 10 from Maharashtra
• 7 from MP
• 3 from Bihar
• 3 from Andhra Pradesh

Among the capital cities which were not nominated as smart cities are Itanagar, Patna, Shimla, Bengaluru and Kolkata. It was stated that public participation is important to fulfil this aim. People should be smart as well.

During the first, 20 cities will be chosen by the Centre. In the next two years, 40 cities each will be chosen to receive central funding of Rs.500 crore over the next five years. Every year, each smart city would get a Central assistance of Rs.100 crore per year for five years.
