Smart City Project by PM Modi | Fusion - WeRIndia

PM Modi launched three mega schemes for the development of smart cities on Thursday. The three schemes AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation), Smart Cities Mission, and Housing for All aimed to develop the cities since they are the growth instruments. Both Centre and states jointly work under the schemes.

Under AMRUT scheme, 500 cities will be developed. The cities selected for the scheme would have the population of one lakh and more. Smart Cities Mission includes the development of 100 smart cities in the next five years. Under Housing for All, it is proposed to construct around 2 crore houses in the coming seven years in urban regions for the people who live in slum areas, low income groups and economically backward conditions.

Making a city smart would be solely dependent on the decision of people that live in the city and the local administrators there. Thus, there will be a healthy competition among cities for their development.

PM Modi assures that the government will safeguard the rights of all stakeholders and all kinds of them will be consulted. He added that today, approximately 40 percent of Indian population is in urban regions, and it is the responsibility of all to work for the well-being of the people.
