Right to repair portal launched on National Consumer Day
On the occasion of National Consumer Day, Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Textiles, and Food and Public Distribution, launched numerous initiatives on Saturday.
National Consumer Day is celebrated on December 24 every year to spread awareness among consumers about their rights and powers.
In this context, Union Minister Piyush Goyal participated in an event held in New Delhi. He launched the right-to-repair portal. He also opened new premises of the National Consumer Helpline centre.
The minister, while addressing the event, appreciated the Consumer Commissions for their efforts to address the issues of consumers and their speedy solutions. There are 673 consumer commissions in the country.
He also lauded the Consumer Affairs Department for taking numerous initiatives for consumers. For instance, the launching of a national consumer helpline. The helpline had only two languages in the beginning. But now, as many as 12 languages have been added.
That means it provides services in 12 Indian languages. Thus, many customers can use the services as it reaches several people.
The minister also said that the Consumer Affairs Department achieved many accomplishments in this regard. It uses technology to improve transparency in the work.
The right-to-repair portal launched by the minister helps consumers ease the repair process. Manufacturers will have to share the details of their products with the customers so that they can get them repaired by third parties.
Earlier, consumers had to depend only on manufacturers for the repair of their products. It was a hassle process.
But, now, consumers will have product details. So, they can get them repaired by themselves or by third parties. Thus, the repair process will be simplified.
Initially, manufacturers of mobile phones, electronics and consumer durables have to share the details. In addition, manufacturers of automobile and farming equipment also share their product details.
