Rail Budget to focus on passengers’ facilities
Till 2016, Rail Budget used to be presented few days before the Union Budget in India at the end of February month. Modi’s government put an end to the 92-year-old practice and approved the merger of both budgets i.e. Rail budget and Central budget.
Moreover, the Union Budget used to be presented on the last working day of February. But, it was preponed to February 1.
This eased the allocation of funds between two budgets to be spent from the beginning of next financial year i.e. April.
From 2017, both budgets are presented at a time on February 1.
Arun Jaitley became the country’s first finance minister to present a combined Budget.
Now, tomorrow, the government is going to present the Interim Budget.
Sources said that the Railway Budget mainly focuses on improving the facilities of passengers.
It is expected that the speed of some existing trains would be increased.
Amenities of passengers would also be increased. These include lifts and escalator facilities, Wi-Fi and more differently-abled friendly stations.
Thus, Railways intends to focus mainly on faster, safer and better journey to its users.
Some other key amenities by the Railways will be as follows: Railways wants to include train protection warning system, GPS enabled train track system and track maintenance with modern machinery to enhance the safety.
As per sources, the budgetary allocation has been increased by the Railways. The increased amount will be used to improve the coaches with various schemes like Swarn Mission. High-speed corridors will also be provided.
