President to confer Padma Awards on Monday
The Padma awards, one of the highest civilian honour would be conferred by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind on March 11.
These awards would be given in three categories, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri.
Padma Vibhushan will be given for exceptional and distinguished service, Padma Bhushan will be awarded for distinguished service of higher order, and Padma Shri will be given for distinguished service.
Earlier on the occasion of Republic Day on January 26, the Indian government announced these prestigious awards to 112 people.
These awards will be given in two sets. The first set of awardees would receive their award on March 11. They are 56 people.
They have already been invited to the Rashtrapati Bhavan to receive the awards.
Remaining 56 people would receive awards on March 16.
Out of 112 awards, 94 are Padma Shri, 14 are Padma Bhushan, and four are Padma Vibhushan.
The awardees include 21 women, 11 foreigners/NRIs etc., and one transgender. Three posthumous awards are also included in it.
These awards recognize the achievements in all fields with the involvement of public services.
The Padma Awards Committee which is being constituted by the Prime Minister each year would make recommendations to whom these awards are conferred with.
The Padma Vibhushan awardees are: Teejan Bai from Chhattisgarh in Art-Vocals-Folk category, Ismail Omar Guelleh(Foreigner – Djibouti) in Public Affairs, Anilkumar Manibhai Naik from Maharashtra in Trade & Industry-Infrastructure, and Balwant Moreshwar Purandare from Maharashtra in Art-Acting-Theatre.
