PM releases a new series of coins

Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a new series of coins yesterday with new features to help visually challenged people. These coins can even be understood by them as well.

₹20 coin was issued newly in this series. With this new coin, five types of coins would be in the circulation including the denominations of ₹1, ₹2, ₹5, ₹10 and ₹20.

Special children that are visually impaired have been invited to the release event.

While releasing the series of coins, PM stated that the government has the vision to reach the last mile and the last person and the new series has been designed as per the vision.


He also said that all the newly released coins will help the visually impaired so that they can use them on their own to carry out daily transactions. Thus, their confidence would be grown.

PM also added that several initiatives had been taken for the wellbeing of the differently abled community. The government is also making sure that every initiative it takes will be differently-abled friendly.

Modi thanked the National Institute of Design for the design of the new series of coins, and Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited and the Ministry of Finance for the release of the new coins.

At the same, the visually challenged people that have been invited to the event also thanked PM for introducing the new series of coins that would help them to perform their daily transactions.

The size and weight of the coins are increased as per their denomination to understand easily with touch. The newly introduced ₹20 coin would have 12-sides with no serrations.

And all other remaining coins would be round in shape so that the visually impaired people can differentiate ₹20 coin with other coins.

Union Minister for Finance Arun Jaitley and Minister of State for Finance Pon Radhakrishnan also joined the event.
