Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the inauguration of the new Parliament building by releasing a special commemorative postage stamp and a ₹75 coin.

The coin and stamp were unveiled during the inauguration ceremony held at the Lok Sabha chamber in the new Parliament building.

The Department of Economic Affairs, under the Union Ministry of Finance, issued a gazette notification, specifying that the coin would weigh between 34.65 and 35.35 grams.

One side of the coin will feature the Lion Capital of the Ashoka Pillar at the centre. It also has the inscription ‘Satyamev Jayate’ below it.

It is accompanied by the word ‘Bharat’ in Devanagari script and ‘INDIA’ in English. The word ‘Bharat’ in the Devanagari script will be on the left periphery, while ‘INDIA’ in English will be on the right periphery.

The coin will also bear the rupee symbol ‘₹’ and the denomination value ’75’ in international numerals beneath the Lion Capital.

The other side of the coin will showcase the image of the Parliament Complex, along with the year ‘2023’ in international numerals below the image.

The inscription ‘Sansi Sankul’ will be written in Devnagari script on the upper periphery. The word ‘PARLIAMENT COMPLEX’ will be written in English on the lower periphery.

The year ‘2023’ in international numerals will be located beneath the image of the Parliament Complex.

The coin will have a circular shape with a diameter of 44 mm and a weight of around 35 grams.

It will possess 200 serrations and will be composed of 50 per cent silver, 40 per cent copper, 5 per cent nickel, and 5 per cent zinc.

The launch of the special ₹75 coin coincides with India’s celebration of its 75th year of independence.

Additionally, a special stamp was also released to commemorate this significant occasion.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the new Parliament building to the nation.

The previous Parliament building was inaugurated by Lord Irwin,  the then Governor-General, on January 18, 1927.

The new Parliament building can accommodate 888 members in the Lok Sabha and 300 members in the Rajya Sabha.

The capacity of the previous Parliament building allowed for 543 members in the Lok Sabha and 250 members in the Rajya Sabha.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s release of the commemorative stamp and ₹75 coin signifies the inauguration of the new Parliament building.

These special items symbolize the historic moment and India’s 75th year of independence. These mementoes serve as a reminder of India’s progress and aspirations as it moves forward into a new era.
