Yesterday Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Maitri Setu, a bridge that connects India and Bangladesh. PM launched it virtually through a video conference.

The bridge has been constructed over the Feni river in Tripura. The river flows between both countries.

Here are some important things to know about Maitri Setu:

  • Maitri means friendship, and the bridge represents the increasing friendly relations between India and Bangladesh.
  • The bridge has a length of 1.9 km. It joins Sabroom in India with Ramgarh in Bangladesh.
  • It is likely to improve the trade between both countries. It also paves way for the movement of Indians and Bangladeshis.
  • The project’s cost is ₹133 crores. The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited constructed.
