PM Kisan funds are likely to be increased
PM Kisan scheme was launched by the central government on February 24, 2019 to improve the income of farmers.
The scheme is a direct money transfer scheme to benefit the farmers. Amount is directly credited into the accounts of farmers under this scheme. Farmers are given ₹6,000 in three instalments.
For this, farmers have to enroll through a revenue officer or nodal officer nominated by the state government. They can also self-register through the Farmers corner on the portal.
Now, the government is likely to increase the funds for this scheme from ₹6,000 to ₹10,000. As per the sources, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman would allocate additional funds for this scheme to increase the monetary benefit to farmers.
The scheme intends to benefit small and marginal farmers. Now, the government wants to increase the monetary benefit to farmers.
While the farmers have been protesting against the new farm bills, the government is trying to reduce the intensity of the problem.
The government hold talks with the farmers many times. However, they were not fruitful as the farmers did not want to stop their protests until the government withdraws theselaws.
The Supreme Court also asked the government to put hold on these laws for some time to bring the situation to normalcy.
While the talks between the government and farmers are continuing, the government decided to put them on hold for some time as suggested by the court.
At the same time, it also decided to increase their monetary benefit to make farmers happy.
Several farmers feel that the money given by the government under the scheme is not sufficient. So the Centre wants to increase the allocation of resources in the upcoming Union Budget. At the same same time, the funds for the PM agricultural irrigation scheme and PM crop insurance scheme also have been increased in 2020-21 from 2019-20.
