PM Modi launches KISAN Scheme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched ₹75,000 crore Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme yesterday at Gorakhpur.

The PM-KISAN scheme was announced in the interim Budget of 2019-20.

Under this scheme, each farmer who has less than 2 hectares of land would get ₹6,000 per year in three instalments.

The PM distributed the first installment of ₹2,000 to more than one crore farmers in the country.

After rolling out the PM-KISAN scheme, Modi started his speech by chanting ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’. He said that this scheme is not an election promise, but it was rolled out to address the issues of farmers.

PM expressed his hope that the scheme would be beneficial to small and marginal farmers.

He assured that his government would provide every help that farmers need, and their aim is to double the income of farmers by 2022.

Modi said that the amount of ₹75,000 crore would be transferred directly to the accounts of farmers in the coming years.

All the identified farmers would get money into their bank accounts in the coming weeks. The state governments have to furnish the detailed list of farmers in their states to the central government for this.

In this context, PM said that some states where the opposition parties are in ruling did not send the list of farmers to the Centre.

He warned them that if they won’t send the list, then the farmers would destroy them. He urged the states to send the list as soon as possible to get the farmers benefitted from the scheme, and not to play politics with their life.

As the opposition parties are criticizing that PM-KISAN scheme is an election gimmick, the ruling BJP party has condemned it saying that several programmes have been launched in their tenure for the welfare of farmers.
