PM calls meeting on farm issues

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called a meeting to address the farm issues. The meeting will be held on February 19 – 20.

It is intended to discuss the solutions to the problems of farmers, and boost the agriculture sector by improving the income of farmers by 2022.

The meeting ‘The National Conference 2022’ is organized by the Union Agriculture Ministry in Delhi at the Pusa complex for two days.

In addition to the PM, senior officials of Niti Aayog, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh, state varsities, CACP, farmers and farmers’ bodies will participate in the meeting.


India is an agricultural country. It is one of the topmost agricultural countries in the world by GDP contribution.

Majority of rural people in the country depend on agriculture for their livelihood.

Hence, country’s economy will be boosted if proper growth is seen in the agriculture sector.

Considering that fact and the need to improve agriculture sector for the overall development of the country, Indian government is taking several measures.

In the Union Budget 2018-19 several steps were announced for the farmers. Fixing MSP 1.5 times higher than the cost of production is one among them.

Majority of farmers are in a distressed conditions due to fall in prices of several agriculture products in addition to natural calamities.

Some state governments had announced some money to farmers to come out of their distress.

Even the central government wants to make sure the gains in the agriculture sector reach the farmers so that they can make improvements in their standard of living.

Several farm experts are expected to brainstorm on the issues faced by farmers and agriculture sector on the first day of this meeting.

Their recommendations will be submitted to the PM on the second day.
